In a collaborative effort to foster sustainable energy solutions, Bioflame Africa has teamed up with Nakazibwe Florence, a PhD student from Makerere University, to deliver training on low-carbon energy alternatives in Mukono District. This initiative reached over 400 households across five parishes in Nakisunga sub-county—Kirwanyi, Wankooba, Kiyoola, Katente, and Namuyenje.
The training provided by Bioflame Africa focused on teaching community members, especially women, how to produce eco-friendly briquettes using locally available materials such as banana peels and maize combs, combined with binders like cassava flour, clay, or molasses. This skill not only helps combat the rising costs and environmental damage caused by traditional charcoal but also empowers women to generate income from the sale of briquettes they produce.
Empowering women with these skills enables them to contribute economically to their households and community while playing a crucial role in environmental conservation. As a result of these efforts, the community can now access affordable, sustainable cooking alternatives, and women are at the forefront of driving change and promoting sustainability in Mukono District.
